What can be learned about the familiar by paying attention at everyday anomalies?

“Everyday anomalies” are tiny curious moments, taking place in the middle of the familiar flow of everyday life. They are often experienced in absent-minded mood, when the routinized perceptive or cognitive patterns are disturbed by something different from the usual. Anomalies can be spontaneously born in the environment or in the head of the person experiencing it, or organized by a prankster, artist or activist.

On this website you can browse the collection of the Everyday Anomaly Archive for inspiration and submit your own anomalous experience to the collection or download tools for designing your own anomalies.

The Guide is an ongoing Doctor of Art project of visual artist Oona Tikkaoja (Aalto University, Finland). The photo collages are made by John Helola.
